Family and friends,
Wow that was really the last full week of November. I hope you're all taking in the holidays!!! I certainly am!
We got fed twice on Thanksgiving and it was so good!! When I started my mission I never would have thought that I would get to celebrate Thanksgiving. Lots of things are happening that I didn't think would happen I guess haha. In fact, my mission President told me that the Church has started sending missionaries back to Mexico. He said it's a process of sending 30 (I forgot if it was weekly or monthly) at a time out of like 1500 total. They are first sending the ones who have the least amount of time left on the mission and I fall into that higher percentile. However, I was able to ask President Pingree to have my time extended beyond the three weeks I was originally assigned to finish. So based on the mission's schedule I'm in now, I would be ending a little closer to September of next year which is an added six weeks or so to the time I was scheduled here! Usually those kinds of things don't work, but I guess my situation might be an exception because my first leave date was around the first week of August in 2021, but that would be mid transfer in this mission. When I arrived I wasn't given any option to decide and they threw me in with ending mid July. It all works out though!
This last week was awesome! We had a chapel tour/lesson with someone we are teaching and we taught him the Restoration! He wants to meet at a park and talk more about the Book of Mormon so we are excited! Our mission has a goal for each companionship to baptize by the end of January and things are looking good for us to achieve that! I gave another talk last week and it was great! I did exchanges with one of the Elders in our district and we went to this park for a bit. You will never guess what its name is. It's Markham Park! Not even kidding. The park is massive too and it is packed with people! We just need to figure out the best way to walk it because a lot of it is driving. I'll send some pics of it. We also saw this huge snake there. I really don't know what kind it was but it had red, orange, and yellow stripes. We thought it was an anaconda or something at first. We were driving back and it was just slithering across the road. It was dark by that time too so it was even more wild.
I'll write more next week!! Take care!
- Elder Markham
